Our Tilted World
In the midst of celebrating spring, Mark was musing that we wouldn’t be enjoying this loveliness if it wasn’t for Earth’s tilted axis.  This led to a conversation of life in general – how getting “off kilter” can sometimes be a blessing, moving us into a different season of our lives.  We’ll share our thoughts and would love to hear yours!  Reminder – it’s Potluck Day!  Please bring a dish to share and your own reusable/washable plate and utensils.  We’ll provide cups, cloth napkins, and a variety of beverages.  Elizabeth Hudetz will lead us in a Maypole Dance for those interested!
“There is a season for everything under the sun – even when we can’t see the sun.” ~ Jared Brock
“Those who are resilient can more quickly regain their equilibrium and spring back when they are thrown off kilter by the storms of life.” ~ Mary Buchan
“When it is time for a season to change, the imperfections of life are most visible.” ~ Sue Detweiler

Looking Ahead/Notes of Interest

This Sunday, May 27th – Potluck, immediately following our morning gathering.  Please remember to bring your own reusable plate and utensils, as we aim for near zero waste! We’re also planning on doing the Maypole Dance after lunch, with live music, led by Elizabeth!

Tuesday, May 29th – Our next Singing Circle, 7 pm

King Soopers Neighborhood Reward Gift Cards – We are excited to have joined King Soopers fundraising gift card program!  When you use your Paths of Heart Gift Card, 5% of your total purchases are rewarded to Paths of Heart.  It does not cost you anything extra – simply load your gift card with any amount before you buy your groceries.  We will be selling the cards with an initial amount of $20 loaded on them.

We’re thinking of scheduling a “Paint with a Purpose” fun(d)-raising night for Paths of Heart at Pinot’s Palette.  Let us know if this is something you’d be interested in attending, and what days/nights of the week might work best for you.

We invite you to visit our website, www.pathsofheart.org. There you’ll find past newsletters, a newsletter sign-up form, more about our organization, a photo gallery, and a ‘donate’ button, for those who prefer to donate to our non-profit with a credit card .  Stop by for a visit and please share with friends!

‘Gratitudes’

We’ve been grateful for the rain, interspersed with lovely days for working in the yard and gardens!

Spontaneity!
I don’t really know what the topic is for this Sunday!  Mark and Myles will be off at a recording session, and I (Colleen) will be “coordinating” the morning.  Nothing in particular was coming to mind, so I think we’re just going to gather up and see where it leads.  Or “spontaneity” could BE the topic!  Several folks have stepped up to help, so we’ll have extra music with Elizabeth and Al, and Judi will play flute and piano.  Come have fun with us!

Mother’s Day
Today is Mother’s Day – a day to celebrate our ‘literal’ mothers, yes,  but also to honor anyone who offers that mothering energy or essence to others.  The concept of a mother is not limited to just a biological definition, and the qualities of mothering – nurturing, unconditional love, support, understanding, wisdom – can be fulfilled by women and men alike!  How might we expand our ideas and celebration of Mother’s Day?
“The essence of motherhood is not restricted to women who have given birth; it is a principle inherent in both women and men. It is an attitude of the mind. It is love — and that love is the very breath of life… For those in whom motherhood has awakened, love and compassion for everyone are as much a part of their being as breathing.”
~ Mata Amritanandamayi (known throughout the world as Ammachi, or Beloved Mother)”A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.”  ~  Tenneva Jordan

Determination

Sometimes it seems like we carry such a heavy load.  We all suffer loss, setbacks, disappointments.  How do we recover, rebuild, restore?  Through steadfast determination and persistence (along with lots of self love and a little playfulness!).  Let’s share our successes and our challenges.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not…Genius will not…Education will not…Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” ~ Calvin Coolidge

“Whatever you do, do with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best.” ~ Alia Bhatt

“You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” ~ Ralph Marston

Looking Ahead/Notes of Interest

Friday, May 4th, 8:00 pm – “Paths of Heart Presents…” House Concert with Alaskan Indie Folk artist, Laura Oden!  Laura has recently released her 2nd CD titled “Peel Back Another Layer”, with songs that ruminate on family loyalties, love, the meaning of life and whether or not the TSA actually makes travel any safer, all steeped in an ambiance of introspection.  “My father was a theologian and my mother was an actress,” Laura Oden said with a slight grin and a little shake of her head. “So it was sort of inevitable that I’d become a songwriter.”  Visit www.lauraoden.com for a sneak peek!  Hope you can join us for this fun and enlightening night!  Colleen will open with a few songs.  Suggested donation just $10 at the door.  Potluck snacks and beverages after the show.
