Carrying a Peaceful Heart into 2020

Sunday, December 29th

Carrying a Peaceful Heart into 2020

“When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal the broken,
to feed the hungry,
to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among the people,
to make music in the heart.”
~ Howard Thurman

That about sums it up for us!  That’s what we will aspire to talk about together on Sunday…

Quotes to ponder

“Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.” ~ Hafsat Abiola

“Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge; and through humane ways.” ~ Dalai Lama XIV

“Love is the vital essence that pervades and permeates, from the center to the circumference, the graduating circles of all thought and action. Love is the talisman of human weal and woe –the open sesame to every soul.” ~ Elizabeth Cady Stanton

The Return of the Light

Sunday, December 22nd

The Return of the Light

Saturday marks the Winter Solstice, Sunday is the start of Hanukkah, Wednesday is Christmas Day, and Thursday Kwanzaa begins ~ what a week for celebrating the Light, both inside and outside ourselves! Even in the darkest of times, we can continue to carry the light within us. How do you let your light shine? How can we shine our light as a community?

Quotes to ponder

“These are the darkest days of the year, and it’s no coincidence that the flickering flames of the menorah, the twinkling lights on the tree and the Kwanzaa candelabrum all harken to the human need for the comfort of light.” ~ Tracy Grant

“Remember to light the candle of joy daily and all the gloom will disappear from your life.” ~ Djwhal Khul

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” ~ Edith Wharton

Making Time for Silence

Sunday, December 15th

Making Time for Silence

Amid all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s so important to set aside times for silence, meditation, and contemplative thought.  How ironic that this season of light, giving, and good cheer can often lead to stress and feelings of inadequacy; how easy it can be to get caught up in the commercialism and sense of urgency.  The busier we are, the more we need that quiet time!  Take some time with us this Sunday to sit in silence and breathe in the quiet joy of the season.

Quotes to ponder

“Make peace with silence, and remind yourself that it is in this space that you’ll come to remember your spirit.” ~ Wayne Dyer

“There are times when we stop, we sit still. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.” ~ James Carroll

“Quiet is peace. Tranquility. Quiet is turning down the volume knob on life. Silence is pushing the off button. Shutting it down. All of it.” ~ Khaled Hossein

“You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.” ~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

What Matters Most

Sunday, December 8th

What Matters Most

I think we all got a sense of what matters most to Laura Elliot when she graced us with her beautiful presence last Sunday and shared some of her life’s journey.  We decided to expand on this theme and also give you a chance to share your stories of participating in November’s month long “YOU MATTER” marathon.  After all, one thing that matters most is YOU!

Quotes to ponder

“There comes a moment when you realize what matters the most in your life. Let that moment be now and that matter be your love and kindness.” ~ Debasish Mridha

“I live to enjoy life by the littlest things, feeling the grass between my toes, breathing fresh air, watching the wind sway the trees, enjoying the company of loved ones, a deep conversation, getting lost in a good book, going for a walk in nature, watching my kids grow up. Just the feeling itself of being alive, the absolute amazing fact that we are here right now, breathing, thinking, doing.” ~ Marigold Wellington

“Perspective is as simple as answering this question: If I had 5 months to live would I experience this problem differently?” ~ Shannon Adler

Tuesday, December 10th ~ “Colorado Gives Day”. Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Though we cannot accept donations through the official website because our organization is not of sufficient size, many of our supporters have chosen to donate on this day “in the spirit” of the movement by going to the Paths of Heart website to donate. https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ We so appreciate your support, especially as this year draws to a close, in keeping Paths of Heart on the path of love, kindness, joy, gratitude, and service in our community and beyond!
