Fly Like a Bird
As often happens, a series of small encounters led to this week’s topic, one of which was coming across a book entitled, The Art of Mindful Birdwatching, Reflections on Freedom and Being by Claire Thompson. In the Introduction she writes, “Who has never gazed enviously at a bird soaring in the sky? Or delighted in the uplifting tunes of nature’s songsters? Birds are an everyday source of beauty, wisdom, and wonder…” She expounds on their inspiration for the practice of mindfulness and also as a “symbol of our freedom to soar…” Sounded like a perfect Paths of Heart topic to us! Bring your birding stories to share.
Quotes to ponder
“In order to see birds it is necessary to become a part of the silence.” ~ Robert Lynd
“She decided to free herself, dance into the wind, create a new language. And birds fluttered around her, writing “yes” in the sky.” ~ Monique Duval
“I pray to the birds because they remind me of what I love rather than what I fear. And at the end of my prayers, they teach me how to listen.” ~ Terry Tempest Williams
“The bird dares to break the shell, then the shell breaks open and the bird can fly openly. This is the simplest principle of success. You dream, you dare and you fly.”
~ Israelmore Ayivor
