‘Tis the Season!

‘Tis the Season!

Sunday, December 5th, 2021

The Season of Light and Peace is upon us, with our Jewish friends celebrating Hanukkah this week and twinkling Christmas lights appearing in rapid succession across the land. Those candles and lights are lifting our spirits and bringing us peace as we contemplate all the different celebrations this season enfolds and how we can envelop all their brightest and beautiful significance. Come join us in celebration this Sunday!

Love, Light, and Peace to all, Colleen and Mark

Quotes to ponder

“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”
~ Hamilton Wright Mabie

“Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” ~ Marianne Williamson

January 2nd – in person

Many of you have been asking about our (until recently!) “annual” Christmas Eve Concert. After heartful thought and consideration, we have decided to refrain once again this year. We feel we would have to curtail attendance to such a degree that so many would be left out, and it just doesn’t feel right to do so. Instead, we will celebrate in song the day after Christmas with several guest musicians and hope you can join us then.

#Giving Tuesday was a great success for Paths of Heart and we thank you all for your generosity!! You can still donate through our Facebook Campaign until December 10th here https://www.facebook.com/donate/1065442570943881/10223466097475017 or donate anytime via our website here https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ Thanks so much in advance for supporting and sustaining our community and mission during this season of giving!

Request for guest presenters and musicians! ~ Thanks to those who have stepped up to present a topic on Sunday, or to share music! Please let us know if you’re interested or have ideas of other speakers/musicians you’d like to invite. A small honorarium is available.

Sending “Good Juju” and prayer ~ If anyone ever wants to receive our collective positive thoughts and prayers on a Sunday morning, please ask! We can be as specific or as anonymous as you’d like. Let us know if we can surround you and your loved ones in love and light!

“Paths of Heart” Labyrinth and Zen Meditation Garden – This was intentioned to be a community space, so know that you are always welcome to drop by and walk or sit – you do not need to let us know in advance. Do note that we have experienced the outer “halo” of glass blocks in the labyrinth to be slippery when wet, so it’s best to walk it on a dry day (not usually a problem in Colorado!). We also welcome volunteers to help keep our labyrinth looking beautiful and free of debris and weeds. Thank you in advance.

Giving Opportunities – Two ways you can support Paths of Heart without costing you an extra penny are detailed below:

King Soopers Community Rewards Program – if you shop at KS and have a rewards card, you can “link” it to Paths of Heart and King Soopers will donate a portion of your dollars spent (around 5%) to our non-profit. Go to https://www.kingsoopers.com/i/community/community-rewards to sign up and link your card. Our organization name is Paths of Heart and organization number is RG782. Let us know if you want help signing up!

Amazon Smile – We do love shopping locally and very often do, but Amazon sometimes fits the bill. If you are an Amazon shopper, you can make a difference by shopping at smile.amazon.com/ch/81-4175487 to generate donations for Paths of Heart!

During this past year when we weren’t meeting often, online donations became increasingly important to our organization, and are still always gratefully accepted on our website, https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/. You can even sign up for monthly giving, which we deeply appreciate. Thanks so much for supporting the continuation of Paths of Heart!

Big thanks to Terry Stanfill for gracing us with his peaceful presence and saxophone playing last Sunday! It was great to have him and his family visiting with us from AZ and CA!

We are filled with gratitude for all who so generously donated to Paths of Heart this week during our #Giving Tuesday campaign. Our hearts are full!

What are you grateful for today?

Living in Gratitude

“Living in Gratitude”

Sunday, November 28th, 2021

We trust you are having a lovely holiday, steeped in gratitude for all that is, and celebrating that goodness with friends and family near and far. We are surely feeling it! Let’s gather this Sunday to share our gratitude and perhaps a few more stories of passing out our YOU MATTER cards as the official “You Matter Marathon” winds to a close. We encourage you to keep it going though – feels so good to let people know they matter! Terry Stanfill will be joining us on the music this week!

Quotes to ponder

“Going to sleep with a grateful, open heart
is a powerful healing practice. Your dreams will become
more inspiring and you will awaken in the morning
with a lighter state of mind.”
~ Dr. John Demartini

“Practicing mindfulness of gratitude consistently leads to a direct experience of being connected to life and the realization that there is a larger context in which your personal story is unfolding. Being relieved of the endless wants and worries of your life’s drama, even temporarily, is liberating. Cultivating thankfulness for being part of life blossoms into a feeling of being blessed, not in the sense of winning the lottery, but in a more refined appreciation for the interdependent nature of life. It also elicits feelings of generosity, which create further joy. Gratitude can soften a heart that has become too guarded, and it builds the capacity for forgiveness, which creates the clarity of mind that is ideal for spiritual development.” ~ Philipp Moffitt

“Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy – because we will always want to have something else or something more.”
~ Brother David Steindl-Rast

Handling Disappointment

“Handling Disappointment”

Sunday, November 14th, 2021

This week has been a bit of a letdown, peppered with disappointments and sadness. Who knows how much the time change and our apparent SAD (seasonal affective disorder) has to do with it, but I, for one, can’t seem to rise above. We know that having expectations of people and situations can lead to frustration, misery, and resentment, yet it’s sometimes a challenge not to expect people to act with integrity, or honesty, or kindness (pick your virtue!) when these qualities are so highly valued in our own lives. So, we’ll revisit this topic (as we’ve done over the years) to remind our humble selves once again how to best face the challenges of the day. The return of the twinkly lights (in Old Town Fort Collins and around our home) seems to help somehow!
Love and Light, Colleen and Mark

Quotes to ponder

“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”
~ Alexander Pope

“If you’re going to say what you want to say, you’re going to hear what you don’t want to hear.” ~ Roberto Bolaño

“You can’t expect everyone to have the same dedication as you.” ~ Jeff Kinney

“You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you.” ~ Lisa Kleypas

You Matter!

“You Matter!”

Sunday, November 7th, 2021

Oh my gosh – another week has flown by filled with projects and appointments. I woke up this morning, realizing it was already Saturday and I had not given a thought to the newsletter! Usually, we at least start pondering about it by Wednesday, even if it doesn’t make it into print till later in the week. The big news is, we have water in the kitchen again! Flooring is scheduled for Monday and then this construction zone may start looking like the space we have envisioned for so many years. We can’t wait to share it with you! But I digress…This Sunday we’re celebrating the “You Matter Marathon”, a world wide initiative that creates positive connections within and between individuals and communities. It’s a simple concept – just let people know they MATTER by handing them a small card that says so! By naturally and regularly affirming the significance and value of one another, we honor our common humanity and create a path to a more peaceful and joyful world. Cards can be ordered on the website https://youmattermarathon.com (you get 30 free just for signing up) or you can print your own with a template they provide.
We get a reprieve from donning masks this week, as we’ll be on ZOOM. We look forward to seeing your SMILES! Here’s the link:

Do note that we have experienced the outer “halo” of glass blocks to be slippery when wet, so it’s best to walk it on a dry day (not usually a problem in Colorado!).

Gratitudes

The kitchen remodel continues to rock! We are looking forward to amazing potluck gatherings in the not too distant future. We’ve put the gardens to bed for the season and they have provided abundantly. It’s nice to take “watering” off the endless “to do” list! We’ve cherished our visit with Colleen’s Dad. He’s a gem.

What are you grateful for today?

“Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.” ~ Amy Collette

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” ~ Gilbert C. Chesterton

“The more grateful I am, the more beauty I see.” ~ Mary Davis

“If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.” ~ Rabbi Harold Kushner

Autumn’s Wisdom

“Autumn’s Wisdom”

Sunday, October 17th, 2021

This Sunday we’ll discuss what Autumn’s glory has to say to us – can’t you hear her whispering through the leaves? We hope to be outside, but if the temps continue to “fall”, we may retreat inside. If we do, please excuse our construction clutter! See you Sunday morning at 11 a.m.!
Colleen and Mark

Just a quick update on tomorrow’s Paths of Heart Gathering, 10/17/21 at 11 am. Due to a variety of reasons, our gathering will be INDOORS tomorrow, and MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED. We wanted to give everyone a heads up so you can decide what’s best for yourselves in this situation. Stay well! Colleen and Mark

Quotes to ponder

“Delicious Autumn! My very soul is wedded to it and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth, seeking the successive autumns.” ~ George Eliot

“Maybe it is just this time of year—when the rains begin to come down and the skies often turn a little bleak – but every fall, I feel an acute sense of grief and an intense desire to let go.” ~ Sarah Norrad

“Winter is an etching, Spring a water color, Summer an oil painting, and Autumn a mosaic of them all.” ~ Starley Horowitz

“It is easy to get caught in the melancholy of change. It is uncertain and sometimes disorienting, and… change is imminent. I try to remember that it is in the art of letting go that new life is made possible. I trust that those falling leaves are not perishing – they are distilling into something that will fuel new growth.” ~ Elise Krohn

ReUnion

“ReUnion”

Sunday, September 26th, 2021

With Colleen’s 2 recent “reunion” trips with long time friends, we started thinking about that word and how it manifests in our lives in a myriad of ways. Whether it be with friends, family, lovers, estranged relations, oneself, nature, or the Divine, a Re-Union can be a powerful, enriching, transformative experience. What does the word ReUnion evoke within you? That’ll be our discussion this Sunday, as we also celebrate the reunion with the Autumn season! Please share your ReUnion stories with us!

As concerns about the Delta Variant continue and even heighten for some, we will meet outside in the backyard this week, weather permitting. We’ll set up chairs a bit more distanced, and you can continue to mask if that’s what brings the most comfort and feelings of safety to you. We’ll have hand sanitizer at the back gate which we’d like you all to use as you enter, and as some folks are still uncomfortable with physical touch during these uncertain times, let’s refrain from holding hands during our ending song, “What a Wonderful World” for now. It’s also a good idea to ask if folks are accepting hugs before you just “move in” – ha ha! Alas, so many darned qualifiers these days! See ya Sunday!
Love and continued wellness to you, Colleen and Mark

Quotes to ponder

“The sweetness of reunion is the joy of heaven.” ~ Richard Paul Evans

“When you release the illusion of control, you begin an effortless free-fall toward a grand reunion with your original self.” ~ Bryant McGill

“Time and time again we reconnect. It’s like the Universe nudges us to give it one more chance.” ~ Nikki Rowe

Poetry Extravaganza!

“Poetry Extravaganza!”

Sunday, September 12th, 2021

It’s been several years since we had a “Poetry Sunday” – a time when we all share our most favorite poems or readings (of the day, of the month, of the year, of all time!). They can be your own or what others have written. You can bring one, or share several throughout the hour. We had planned to have a guest speaker this Sunday, but since those plans changed unexpectedly, we thought this was a fine alternative! If you can’t be with us, feel free to send us a poem to read in your absence!
As concerns about the Delta Variant continue and even heighten for some, we have decided to meet outside in the backyard this week. Quotes to ponder

Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet.” ~ Plato

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.” ~ Robert Frost

One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.” ~ G.K. Chesterton (someone should find one/write one and bring it!) 🙂
