Paying it Forward

Paying it Forward is an interesting expression.  While it might mean something a little different to each of us, it usually involves doing good for someone else in response to someone having shown us some form of kindness.  Instead of “paying someone back” we pay it forward.  This can create a wonderful cycle of generosity and kindness in our world.  Bring your stories of paying it forward to share – as givers and recipients!

Teresa Funke will join Mark this Sunday, sharing from her blog posts, and Judi Lucero will join in on the music!

Looking Ahead/Notes of Interest

Sunday, April 21st ~ We’ll celebrate Easter with a potluck immediately following our gathering.  Affirming great weather so we can have it outside!

Tuesday, April 30th ~ Next Song Circle7-8:30

** King Soopers Gift Cards – King Soopers is changing their Neighborhood Rewards program!! Their new program will allow those who support us to simply use their registered King Soopers loyalty card to earn funds for Paths of Heart! Any gift card reloads prior to April 1st will still earn 5% for Paths of Heart, but any reloads after that will not benefit us.  Whatever money you have left on your gift card will not expire, but once you have used it up, you can discard it, and going forward your loyalty card will serve as your support!
You will need to register your loyalty card online to link it to Paths of Heart. Many of you probably have an online account already, where you load new coupons and digital offers from King Soopers on a regular basis.  If so, just go to your account, scroll down to “Community Rewards” on the left hand side, click on it and search for Paths of Heart by name or our new NPO (Non-Profit Organization) number RG782. Once it pops up, just click “enroll” and you are done!
For those that don’t have an online account, you’ll need to create one for your purchases to benefit Paths of Heart.  This just requires some basic information, a valid email address and your loyalty card number.
Thanks so much for participating in this fundraising program; if you have any questions or need help registering your loyalty card, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We hope this change will allow and encourage more people to support our non-profit with greater ease!

If you are an Amazon shopper, please consider shopping through Amazon Smile and designating Paths of Heart as your non-profit of choice.  A percentage of your purchase will be donated to Paths of Heart!

We invite you to visit our website, www.pathsofheart.org. There you’ll find past newsletters, a newsletter sign-up form, more about our organization, a photo gallery, and a ‘donate’ button, for those who prefer to donate to our non-profit with a credit card .  Stop by for a visit and please share with friends!

Living an Abundant Life
What does “abundance” mean to you?  Some might think directly of money or “things” acquired, but abundance is so much more than that!  It is a mindset that affirms there is more than enough of everything to go around ~ be it love, happiness, time, success, and yes, money and possessions, if that is what you desire.  Paramount to this mindset is also an attitude of gratitude and service, where we are willing to share our abundance and to encourage and celebrate the success of others rather than be threatened by it.  Let’s encourage one another to embrace life’s abundance!

“The essence of life does not consist in the lushness of your possessions, but in the richness of your heart.” ~ Roy T. Bennett“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.” ~ Steve Maraboli

“To fill life with abundance, give with love and accept with gratitude.”

Being a Fool for Love

Monday is April 1st, commonly known as April Fools’ Day, so we thought we’d tie in Sunday’s discussion with that theme.  Being a “fool for love” usually has a negative connotation, but is it necessarily bad? What if we allowed our hearts to be truly open to one another in all our relationships (not just romantic); to be fully conscious as we take risks and allow for the the possibility of hurt and vulnerability?  IS that so foolish? Are we willing to be labeled “fools” as we take the high road in a world that seems hopelessly jaded?  Can we embrace our foolishness to be who we’re really meant to be?

“I must learn to love the fool in me – the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.”
~ Theodore Isaac Rubin

“The problem with the wise is they are so filled with doubts and questions, while fools are so certain about things.”

The Ebb and Flow of Life

This felt like a good topic this week for 2 reasons: Our family was surrounded by the sea for the past week and a half, mesmerized by its ebb and flow, AND our highly anticipated annual performance of “Waters of March” with Judi Lucero on flute was postponed a few weeks ago because of snow, and is rescheduled for this Sunday!  Some of our favorite treasures on this theme come from Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s, “Gift from the Sea”, so we’ll be drawing some from that book as we discuss.  We’ll also have our monthly potluck this Sunday (details below).

“When you love someone you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity – in freedom”  ~  Anne Morrow Lindbergh

To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be. ~ Rachel Carson

I trust in the ebb and flow of the universe. I trust that life’s bigger than what I can see. I trust that there is a divine order beyond my control. And I trust that no matter what happens, I will be all right. ~ Oprah Winfrey

Turning Up the Light:Using Our Voices, Power, and Choices to Shine Brighter
Author Susan Skog is our guest speaker this Sunday!  Susan emphasizes, “This is not the time to stay silent and on the sidelines. In addition, Krisann Meyer-Corcoran and Emma Sloniker will be joining Mark and Colleen with special music to compliment Susan’s talk!

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.”

The Music in Our Souls

Having just returned from a short trip to Austin, which some call “the live music capital of the world”, we are reminded of how profoundly music feeds our souls, whether we’re participating as a player, a singer, a dancer, or a grateful appreciator.  As Michelle Obama said recently, “Music helps us share ourselves. Our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another, to invite one another in. Music shows us that all of it matters. Every story within every voice. Every note within every song.”  What a beautiful and accurate description!  We’d love to hear how music has “rocked” your world…

“Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

“Music gives a soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
and life to everything.” ~ Plato

Angels Among Us

Have you ever felt you were being watched over by an angel?  Maybe you narrowly missed being in an accident, or you felt spiritually guided in a pivotal moment of your life.  Even if you can’t relate to the concept of these ethereal beings, we’d venture to say there are humans in your life that have felt like angels – a kind, gentle soul that was a beacon of light and hope during difficult times.  We’d love to hear your stories of “angels among us”!

“No, I never saw an angel, but it is irrelevant whether I saw one or not. I feel their presence around me.” ~ Paulo Coelho

“The way people come into your life when you need them, it’s wonderful and it happens in so many ways. It’s like having an angel. Somebody comes along and helps you get right.” ~ Stevie Ray Vaughan

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” ~ Anonymous

The Path of Love

Love is in the air, but we’ll let Valentine’s Day take care of the “romantic” stuff.  Our Love Discussion will center on self love, familial love,  Philia (deep friendship), Agape (selfless love, extended to all people) and more.  Come and join the conversation!

Where there is love there is life.
~ Mahatma Gandhi

“Self-love is an incredible gift we can choose to give and receive over and over again. As much as we say I love you to another, we can say it to ourselves. We can say these three words frequently, and we can say them with the reverence for which they are meant.” ~ Emily Rose Barr

Being in Community
This Sunday we gratefully celebrate 5 years at Paths of Heart, so what better topic to share than “community”!  We’d love to hear your experiences with Paths of Heart over the years, and your suggestions and vision for the future.

“The need for connection and community is primal, as fundamental as the need for air, water, and food.” ~ Dean Ornish”Your particular vision, gifts, and strengths are part of what makes your community unique, so as you recognize them in yourself, feel free to offer them to others. Whether your offerings are visionary or practical, they are the very essence of community.”
~ Madisyn Taylor

“I have inherited a belief in community, the promise that a gathering of the spirit can both create and change culture. In the desert, change is nurtured even in stone by wind, by water, through time.”
~ Terry Tempest Williams
